With the iPad so popular amongst die-hard Apple fans, Google have successfully tapped into the open-source side of the tablet market. Here we present the top 5 Android tablets.

1. Acer Iconia Tab A500

At $ 449, Acer's Iconia Tab A500 offers great value for money. It has good software customizations, and the USB host port and microSD card slot are both extremely useful. However, it must be said that some people will find the touch screen grid to be a bit annoying. It is also a bit heavier than some other tablets.

2. Asus Eee Pad Transformer TF101

At only $ 399, the Asus Eee Pad Transformer TF101 is the best value Android tablet available at the moment. It has a fast processor, great multitasking capabilities, and calendar and e-mail notifications. In addition to this, it has HDMI out, giving you HD video capabilities too. Another great thing about this tablet is that by adding an optional keyboard dock ($ 150 extra) you can turn it into a notebook. However, the virtual keyboard isn't very good at predictive text, and some users may find the interface to be a bit cluttered.

3. Motorola Xoom

Although not quite as cheap as some of the other tablets, Motorola's Xoom is the first Android tablet to feature Google's Honeycomb operating system. It's fast, with flash support, and a lovely touch screen which is very responsive. Like the TF101 above, it also has HDMI output. However, some people may find the interface to be a bit overcomplicated, and there is currently no support for SD cards either.

4. Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1

Again, although this tablet is not the cheapest one in our list, it does have a number of great features. For example, it is the thinnest tablet on the market, has a fantastic 10.1-inch HD screen, and has improved multitasking thanks to Honeycomb 3.1. It also has flash support, and even comes with ear buds. However, some users may find the video playback to be a bit poor.

5. Toshiba Thrive

It has to be said, the Toshiba Thrive is the bulkiest Honeycomb tablet so far. This is a shame, considering it's not even the cheapest. However, it does win when it comes to connectivity, due to the USB, mini-USB, and HDMI ports, plus the SDXC card slot.
