These Free Chrome Extensions Are Exactly What You Need

Chrome is one of the most widely used internet browsers and users are always looking for ways to make their experience on Chrome better. One of the best things about Chrome is that it is very flexible as it allows third-party extensions to be used with ease. However, finding good extensions isn't always easy. Below you will find some Chrome hacks that will completely change the way you use Chrome. The best part about all of these extensions is that they're completely free!

Sunrise Calendar

Google Calendar is free and very powerful, but it's a little dull in the aesthetics department and is also missing some pretty important features. The Sunrise Calendar extension fixes both of these problems. In addition to that, it also comes with a mobile companion app for iOS and Android that could be better than the actual extension.

Calculator

Some Chrome extensions are complicated, but the best ones don't have to be. Calculator for Chrome is probably one of the most useful Chrome extensions out there. No longer will you have to use the calculator on your smartphone or open a separate calculator app on your desktop every single time you need to add up some numbers.

NEnhancer

Netflix is the most popular video streaming service around today. You use it all the time, your mom uses it all the time, practically every single person you know uses it all the time, but there are ways to make the service even better, especially on Chrome. NEhancer is a free Chrome extension that adds a lot of key information onto Netflix's website for TV shows and movies. This information includes things like trailers, Rotten Tomato ratings, IMDb info and a lot more.

WorkFlowy

WorkFlowy is the ultimate list extension for Chrome. WorkFlowy is, according to its creator, "simple enough for a shopping list, and powerful enough to run a company." The key features include infinitely nested lists, tag and filter list items, full offline functionality, collaboration with others with live syncing, click to edit, mark items as complete, zoom in on any sub-list, works on phones and tablets with live syncing between devices, automatic syncing between your phone, tablet and computer, add notes to any list item, quick expand and collapse lists, and instant full text search.

Criptext for Gmail

Criptext is a very comprehensive Gmail enhancement that adds a lot of important features to your Gmail experience. Almost everyone uses Gmail these days so extensions like Criptext are pretty handy. Criptext allows users to un-send emails before or after they've been read with the click of a button. In addition to that, they can also send self-destructing emails and attachments Mission Impossible style. Moreover, Criptext allows you to attach secure files up to 100MB in size and know exactly when emails are opened and when attachments are downloaded.

These are just a few of the Google Chrome hacks that are available for your internet browser. These extensions help make things easier and more manageable and add a lot of benefits to using Chrome. If you want to make what is arguably the best internet browser out there even better then take a look at some of these awesome extensions.

Google Looking For Redemption With Google Glass For Enterprise

I guess the Science Fiction-esque future that Google Glass suggested in its ads is a little bit further ahead of us than Google realized. Google Glasses were all but a huge consumer flop. The general public just wasn't ready for goofy-looking, augmented reality glasses.

But that doesn't mean this product is dead, at least not yet. According to a recent FCC filing discovery, 9to5Google revealed the next version of Google Glass. This edition will be geared towards applications that are used in the enterprise space, leaving out the novelty consumer-oriented functions that were featured in the first "Explorer Edition".

The "Enterprise Edition" Google Glass is said to sport a larger prism display for a better augmented experience. This serves as an attempt to minimize eye strain many early glass users complained about.

Additionally the Enterprise Edition will drop the Texas Instruments processor for an Intel Atom processor which will be faster and have better battery life than existing Android Wear smartwatches.

While the Explorer Edition often overheated or ran out of batteries, Enterprise Edition promises to run cooler, even with the additional external battery pack Google is experimenting with.

The last thing cited in the report was a super-fast 802.11ac Wi-Fi with dual-band support for 2.4GHz and 5GHz wireless channels, meaning even faster video streaming.

Google's decision to shift their Glass strategy towards enterprise customers is a huge, but intelligent shift. Yes, Google, assisting with specialized medical, law enforcement, or even business applications seems more important than letting consumers play virtual reality games.

Google Holding Ubiquitous Computing Summit This Fall

The Google I/O developers conference is what most people look forward to from Google every year. Even though that event has already come and gone, that doesn't mean there isn't anything left to look forward to from the company for the rest of the year. Google just announced that it will be holding a Ubiquitous Computing Summit this fall in San Francisco, California.

Just basing an idea off the name of the event won't get you anywhere as it isn't very descriptive. But the event will focus on the idea of making it easier to use software across a lot of different devices and form factors. The idea is that software should be universal across different things like smartphones, tablets, TVs, smartwatches, a car, etc....

On the developers end of the idea, they are trying to make all of these devices run the same universal software without having to change any of the code. A Google developer has also said that the summit will also focus on working on context-aware apps that will know which device is running them, where it is running them, how it is using them, and all kinds of other stuff. It is pretty interesting. They are now working on setting up guidelines for developing the software as well.

Interested in a Quote on a Tablet Rental for the Google Summit? Rentacomputer has all the latest in Tablet Rental technology, including the Google Nexus!

The idea isn't so new. Google has been talking about doing this type of thing for years now. All of the different versions of Android, like Lollipop and Jelly Bean, were all said to be steps toward unifying the Android experience across all of the different devices. Over the past year, Google has brought together all of their Android development kits for all of the different form factors. Even Microsoft is jumping on the bandwagon, and they are making Windows 10 to run not only on PCs, but on all of their smartphones and tablets, and even on the Xbox One.

The Ubiquitous Computing Summit doesn't have an exact date yet, just that the summit will be held this Fall in San Francisco. But as there is more information surfacing, you will be sure to find it here.

Google Looking to Increase Internet Speeds with QUIC Network

Google has been stress-testing its QUIC (Quick UPD Internet Connections) network protocol the past quarter. Right now, about half of requests from Chrome to Google servers are being set through QUIC and the company says it's leading to a greater performance improvement over TCP resulting in an increasing amount of traffic.

QUIC supports multiplexed transport over UDP while also giving security comparable to TLS/SSL. It is also cutting down on latency by relying on UDP instead of TCP. As of now the only real concern with latency-sensitive services like Google Search is how the UDP-based QUIC outperforms TCP by establishing connections with servers its already communicated with, without any hassle or extra round trips to the server. QUIC gets the better part of TCP in poor network conditions.

“The standard way to do secure web browsing involves communicating over TCP + TLS, which requires 2 to 3 round trips with a server to establish a secure connection before the browser can request the actual web page,” Google wrote in a blog post Friday.

When re-transmitting a packet, packet sequence numbers are never reused. This helps figure out which packets have been received as well as not having to worry about your internet timing out. QUIC over TCP has helped save a second off of the Google Search page load time for the slowest 1% of connections. This helps sites like YouTube, for watching videos online. Viewers have reported 30% fewer rebuffers using QUIC to watch videos.

Google also wants to ask if the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), with some changes like the wire format and dissociate the current plan from SPDY and moving to QUIC-over-HTTP2, will make the protocol an Internet standard. Google wants to continue increasing traffic over the protocol, with the overall outcome of entrusting it with all the traffic from Google clients to Google services.

Google is expecting good things to come from this so we'll see how it all plays out in the end.

This PC tablet kills the iPad. Apad, best Apad, Apad iRobot, iPad, Google android PC tablet Okay, so do I like the Apad more than the iPad? You bet. While I am a fan of Apple's products the fact is that the iPad is a closed system. Allowing me only to get content from Apple, games only from Apple, installed ONLY if Apple approves the games or apps. I don't like being held back. The Apad gives me that FREEDOM that I have been searching for in a PC Tablet. I get the price, size, and the Power of Google with maps, mail and an Android 2.2 OS. Andoid OS, by its very nature is a fully open system.

While you can use the Android marketplace to get your games or applications, Hundreds and hundreds of developers simply release them on their website, and installation is just a click on the Apad when you're browsing the actual website I must confess: the Apad has it all and therefore, provides me with all the tools I need to have the best multimedia experience I have ever seen and or owned, in my life....bar nothing.

Review of the HTC Google Nexus One

Review of the HTC Google Nexus One: google nexus 2

Look, Design, Feel (8/10)

Nexus One is sleek, light and an exceptionally thin smartphone, but gives brilliant power to its visual applications to the delight of the user. The back cover is made from a rubber-like plastic, which boosts users' grip of the phone and it has 4-set of touch-sensitive controls that can be found right under the touch screen.

The Nexus One, which is built by HTC for Google, has an Android OS 2.1 on a 1 GHz Snapdragon processor. As the Nexus One applies the operating system of Google, it gives easy and convenient access to a variety of Google's online services such as email, calendar and navigation. It has a 512MB RAM, 512MB ROM, 4GB microSD in-box expandable to 32GB. It has a 3.7-inch wide WVGA (800 x 480 pixels) AMOLED touchscreen with 100,000:1 typical contrast ratio and 1ms typical response rate, wherein its high resolution, high pixel density organic light-emitting diode (OLED) display is close to perfection. The picture quality is very impressive, with great contrast and profusion of colors! It is just one of the best displays in the mobile market! Nexus One's 5-megapixel camera has autofocus and has a trackball navigation capability. It has a LED flash and a 720x480 video capture @ 20FPS, and dual microphones for noise cancelling. There is no slide-out keyboard for this smartphone because everything is done on its onscreen virtual keyboard.

There are 2 different shades of grey for the Nexus One. Physical buttons are almost invisible on this phone. The phone is grey, but it is available in two different grey shades. There are almost no physical buttons on the HTC Nexus One. It has only the volume rocker on the top left side of the phone and a power button on the top of the volume rocker. The front of the phone also features a trackball below the screen. The back of HTC Nexus One houses the 5 megapixel camera lend and a LED flash unit on its right.

Features (7/10)

The phone runs on the Android OS 2.1. The last version compresses the visual aspect of the OS and the 2.1 brings some fresh features such as Facebook integration, or Quick Contacts. With its 1GHz processor, it is not a pain in the pocket to buy all new hardware to take advantage of a smartphone's high-end capabilities.

The small white trackball of Nexus One is seemingly fabulous because it can be used to scroll up and scroll down in menus, and using the trackball makes web browsing fun and easy. It lights up upon receiving messages or calls and even on missed ones. The power on/off button is placed on top left, while there is a 3.5mm jack port on the right. The power button can be used to lock/unlock the device. This is one nice feature for left-handed users because this is the only button that can change the power from standby.

The microUSB port for charging can be found on the bottom side of the phone. Above the display are two hidden sensors for the light and proximity. On the back portion of the phone is the 5-megapixel camera with flash and a little loudspeaker to the right side. A Google logo can also be found in the middle of the smartphone and the logo of HTC near the bottom.

Live wallpapers with animated backgrounds enables interactive feature with the phone. However, this may entail added consumption to the battery while playing the features of the wallpapers. Nexus One has smooth animations in its Image Gallery wherein transitions and sorting options are made easy.

The high quality 5-megapixel built-in camera of the phone has the maximum resolution of 2592 x 1944 pixels. Taking photos at night time is never a problem with this phone.

With the Android 2.1 feature of this phone, it is possible to dictate messages such as SMS and emails to text, integrate multiple accounts in Gmail. There is also the QWERTY keyboard for those who do not choose to use the 'speech to text' feature. It easily plays H.263 videos, but unfortunately the phone has no DivX/XviD support. It can support.mp4,.3gp,.3g2,.m4v video formats though.

Other qualities of this smartphone include a calculator, a speakerphone, a compass, an A2DP stereo Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, text and multimedia messaging, and the user can access multiple Google applications like YouTube, Google Voice, Picasa, Google Talk, and Google Goggles.

Connectivity (7/10)

HTC Google Nexus One has all possible connectivity tools that must be included in a state-of-the-art device like the GPRS and EDGE class 10, HSDPA 7.2 Mbps and HSUPA 2 Mbps, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g, Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP, and microUSB 2.0. Nexus One can perform speeds of up to 5595 Kbit/ download and 4023 Kbit/s on Wi-Fi connection, 835 Kbit/s download and 56 Kbit/s upload on the Orange 3G+ network and 149 Kbit/s download and 89 Kbit/s upload on EDGE network.

Nexus One can be connected through T-Mobile, Verizon, AT&T and soon, Sprint. The user can use any of the mentioned telecom providers since the phone is an unlocked phone.

Performance (8/10)

The phone is easy to use, from power on/off button to the trackball. Its sensitivity to web connection is superb since it is powered by Google resources. Its multimedia features that include the 5-megapixel camera and video recording are impressive, except for the camera wherein taking photos during intense lighting is quiet a concern. However, capturing images at night time is remarkable. Crashing web connectivity is never a problem for this phone.

Value for Money (7/10)

Nexus One is quite expensive but with the features and applications included in this smartphone, its price is worth the purchase, especially for businessmen who will enjoy its fast and easy applications.

Pros

+ Beautiful LED screen (high resolution to date)

+ Responsive touch screen

+ Fast processing speed

Is Google Tablet a Worthy iPad Contender?

Is Google Tablet a Worthy iPad Contender?: android 23 tablet

As the attention surrounding Apple's iPad shifts to the development of the technology and away from the release itself, it is worth considering whether Android-powered tablets are worthy contenders in the space. While Apple iOS can deliver impressive performance on various device sizes, there is room for competitor for an operating system that extends beyond the capabilities of the iPhone-driven system.

Although a number of potential Windows-based tablets have emerged, the technology behind Android offers both developers and consumers a distinct advantage when it comes to identifying better opportunities in the space. To compare the technology behind a potential Google Tablet, it is important to consider how Android can interact with a variety of mobile computing devices.

In fact, Android itself is not limited to just phones and can be viewed as next generating operating system built on Linux. While Google is moving forward with its browser based Chrome OS as well, one can envision a future where the two operating systems merge, since they share a common Linux code base. Similarly, Apple may move to make iOS the next iteration of its Mac OS as the platform matures. While Android and iOS remain nascent technologies, they show potential of emerging as complete platforms for development in the medium term. Given this potential then, how close is the Google tablet to competing with iPad in the near future?

While the exact details of the Google branded tablet are unknown, a number of details on the potential tablet have emerged. Recently, Google has confirmed development of Tabloids through various partners including Dell (with a focus on WiFi) and Verizon (which will be powered by wireless as well as the cellular data network.) A content driven device, the tablet could offer access to the broader Android marketplace, along with content delivery in the form of books, videos and various other media. While Android has a ways to catch up to the Apple Store and iTunes, its recent strategy seems to put it in line with this broader trend. The increasing competition with Apple bodes well for consumers who are seeking better alternatives to the somewhat restrictive iOS.

So, what can we expect from the table that offers advantages over Apple? For one, Android is more developer friendly, opening up a full range of Tablet-based development options for developers on a wide range of devices. One can envision a series of gaming-enhanced tablets with accelerated hardware, focused e-Readers and even cloud-based portable net books which are powered by Google technology. With complete multi-tasking and an active development community, we can expect the various best of Google to power the device, including web-based applications, integrated logins and simplified navigation, even as 3rd party developers explore new opportunities in the space.

Since Google supports Flash as well as a variety of customizations for hardware providers, developers can find a more robust ecosystem for potential development. Whether you are seeking to code a native Android app, a web-based Flash system or content directly onto the device, the potential for Android is much greater than a single form factor tabloid.
