Acer Iconia Tab A500 Is a High Performance, Android Honeycomb Tablet

Acer Iconia Tab A500 Is a High Performance, Android Honeycomb Tablet: android honeycomb tablet

Hardware and Looks
The Acer Iconia Tab A500 has a 10.1 inch touchscreen that offers 1280x800-pixel resolution.

On the front you will also see a 2 megapixel camera for video calling. However, on the front you won't find any physical buttons.

The normal home and back buttons of any Android device are replaced by virtual buttons on screen. You can see the buttons in the lower left-hand corner of the screen.

The advantage of this placement is that if you shuffle between portrait and landscape orientations, the buttons are always on the lower left-hand side of the display.

There's another button at the lower left corner which gives access to all recently used apps.

On the back of the tablet you will see a 5 megapixel camera. The built quality of A500 gives a cheap feeling because they have mainly used plastic.

There is an orientation lock key and volume adjustment key on the top edge of the tablet. The device also features a Micro SD card slot, a SIM card slot, micro-USB port and micro-HDMI port.

On top of A500 is a headphone socket. The tablet is 13.3mm thick and weighs 765g. That means its 164g heavier than the iPad 2. The A500 runs on the Tegra 2 processor and has 1GB of RAM.

Display and Camera
The 10.1-inch, 1280 x 800 TFT LCD of A500 is a visual delight. Another plus point of the display is its viewing angle.

You can position the tablet at any angle and still the readability remains very good. Though the readability reduces significantly under sun, it performs pretty well indoor conditions.

The 5 mega-pixel rear camera takes nice photos under a bright sky and front camera is just ok. But the main problem is that cameras lose the focus if you try to capture anything away from it and produces blurry images. Despite the 720p HD video capturing capability, the captured video quality is not good at all.

Software and Performance
Acer's Iconia Tab A500 runs on Android 3.0, a specially customized OS for the tablets and it certainly works like a breeze.

A500 features a great browser with Flash support. You can open multiple tabs and multi-task. The Honeycomb on screen keyboard is a delight. It supports multi-touch, so you can touch type.

You can also hold down the shift key or number key to get quick access to certain characters. The Gmail client, music player, calendar, photo browser, chat and maps application works brilliantly.

The apps in the Android Market for the Honeycomb devices are not so many and Google should look into this matter as the common Android apps can not utilize the screen space of the tablets. The tablet runs on pair of 3260mAh batteries and offers almost 7 hours of battery life.

Final Verdict
The overall performance of Iconia Tab A500 is good. But there are some negative points too. It's a very heavy tablet, battery life is little poor, and compared to some tablets its price is bit high.

While ASUS Eee Pad Transformer is priced at $ 400 with almost the same facilities, A500 is priced at $ 450.

Android tablets are a dime a dozen, but the folks behind the ThinkPad line of notebooks are looking to change that. The ThinkPad Tablet by Lenovo brings professional styling, sturdy construction and special features to the tablet that are unique to the genre. Android is ready for the boardroom.
The ThinkPad Tablet has typical black styling familiar of the line of laptops, and while a bit heavier than some Android tablets there is no mistaking the solid construction. The attention to detail is evident in every aspect of the tablet, from the solid casing to the buttons beneath the screen covered with Corning Gorilla Glass. The ThinkPad Tablet will satisfy anyone wanting to give a professional image.

The specs of the ThinkPad are fairly typical of the genre, but Lenovo has included some special stuff to make this stand out from the crowd. Foremost is the use of an N-Trig dual digitizer which allows optional pen input on the screen in addition to the typical multi-touch input. The pen rests in a silo on the tablet when not in use.
Lenovo put a full SD slot on the ThinkPad, and a regular USB port that works with the optional portfolio case. The USB port can be used with standard USB flash drives for file exchange. File transfer can be done via the SD slot, too.
The 10.1-inch IPS screen is not the brightest I have tested, but it has outstanding viewing angles which is a good trait for a tablet. The front-facing camera does a decent job with video chatting, and the speaker, while not anything special, is quite loud for a tablet.
In a move rare for a Honeycomb android tablet PC , the ThinkPad Tablet has four hardware buttons beneath the screen (in portrait orientation). These are a Lock Screen Rotation, Browser launcher, Back, and a Home button. These buttons are very rigid and can be hard to press. I find I end up using soft buttons on the screen out of habit.
There are two cameras on the ThinkPad, a 2MP front-facing camera and a 5MP camera on the back. The front camera delivered decent video chatting using Google Talk. The rear camera is nothing spectacular, as I found photos taken with it to be very basic. This tablet will not replace your basic point-and-shoot given its lackluster quality photos, not to mention its unwieldy size for snapping shots.
The ThinkPad construction used in the tablet make it easily the most rugged tablet I have used. It is heavy at 1.6 pounds, but it feels nice and solid in the hand.

The Tegra 2 performed as expected, and I found the overall performance of the ThinkPad Tablet to be similar to other Honeycomb tablets I have used. As is common with Android, I found the ThinkPad to occassionally lag at times for just an instant. It wasn't bad enough to be aggravating, but enough to be noticeable. The lags happened frequently when the screen was auto-rotating and when unlocking after sleeping.
Battery life is decent, and I easily went all day on a charge. I would rate it similar to the Galaxy Tab 10.1 I use, perhaps a little shorter.

The ThinkPad Tablet is not the cheapest Honeycomb tablet out there but it is the best constructed by far. The rubberized ThinkPad coating makes this look and feel as comfortable in the boardroom as the living room. Lenovo is stuffing lots of software on the tablet, and while some will not appreciate all of this I think most will find the apps to be useful.
The ThinkPad logo on the back of the tablet is not just for show, with a red LED that indicates when power is on. The ThinkPad engineering and quality are reflected in all aspects of the tablet, and professionals will appreciate the package.
This China tablet PC is not the thinnest nor the lightest available, but with the optional pen and the keyboard folio it is the most versatile tablet I have used.

The Motorola Xoom Boasts Android Honeycomb As Its Operating System Of Choice

The Motorola Xoom Boasts Android Honeycomb As Its Operating System Of Choice: android honeycomb tablet

In the world of smartphones and laptop computers, there is one device that has the best features of both devices. The tablet is a fairly new device and has since become one of the most popular portable devices on the market. They have many of the same features as a smart phone with the speed and power of a laptop. One of the newest but best tablets is the Motorola Xoom. Before the iPad, there had been very few tablets on the market but once the iPad was released, every company went into overdrive trying to keep up with Apple. Motorola has finally produced a product that is the closest thing to competition the iPad has. With a unique feel and an Android Operating System specifically designed for tablets, the Motorola Xoom is a truly terrific product.

One of the first things that users will notice about this tablet is that the display has a very sharp and pristine look. The 10.1 inch display sports a terrific resolution of 1200 by 800 pixels which give it one of the best screens for a mobile device to date. With this size screen, watching movies and videos is fun and enjoyable because the user does not have to struggle to see the detail of the movie. For people that enjoy having a laptop while they travel, the tablet gives them the same functionality as a laptop on a screen that is good for reading news and viewing websites.

A second thing that users will like about the Motorola Xoom is that it has access to the Android Market. This is where users will download applications to be used on their tablet. There are many applications to choose from and if the user can find the correct apps, the tablet may function better than a PC. One of the must have applications is the Google Maps. This app is considered one of the best travel apps and can be used in place of a GPS system that can cost just as much as the tablet. Overall, the applications that are available with the combination of a new Android Operating System, this particular product is a great alternative to an actual computer.

The Motorola Xoom has a brand new operating system that is specifically designed for the functionality of a tablet computer in mind. The new Android 3.0 Honeycomb was designed from the ground up with nothing being reused from the mobile phone operating systems. One of the main features that OS makes use of is the dual core processor that the Xoom has, so that users can use their tablet with no lag or any performance reduction. The display is redesigned with all new widgets for the home page and the feel of the 3D interface make it a truly unique experience.

Overall, the Motorola Xoom is arguably the first tablet to show true potential. It has a brand new interface that makes users excited to experience it and always gives them something new to try. The tablet is not overly priced and will run just as fast as any tablet on the market. This is one of very few tablets that is entirely unique and created specifically to function as a tablet.

Swype 3.0 for Android Honeycomb Tablets, Reviewed on Motorola Xoom

android honeycomb tablet Videos

Download Info: www.smartkeitai.com In this video, we take Swype 3.0 beta for a spin on a Motorola Xoom Android Honeycomb tablet. The latest version of Swype offers new, tablet-friendly features like being able to re-size and move the keyboard, which enables users to "swype" and scroll while still holding the tablet firmly in both hands. If you prefer using the more traditional method of tapping out each letter, you'll be happy to hear that there's now tap correction, or predictive tap. This allows you to focus on speed over accuracy just like with the swiping method. Also, the word suggestion box has been improved with the ability to side-scroll for more options. Check out all of these features in our video review of Swype 3.0 beta. Android Honeycomb: The True Tablet OS

Android Honeycomb: The True Tablet OS: android honeycomb tablet

When Google first released the Android Honeycomb 3.0, the standard for the world of tablet OS models was redefined. Aside from offering optimal customization while still remaining compatible with a range of third-party apps, the Google strategy of taking the tablet world by storm has truly come to be.

The Android Enterprise
Honeycomb tablets are rapidly becoming the norm of the tablet world with a range of manufactures from phone makers such as Samsung and Motorola to tech giants such as Asus and Acer jumping onto the bandwagon. Unlike other tech competitors such as RIM and Apple which solely rely on in-house developed OS models and hardware, Google has created a rich enterprise from its Android range of operating systems, which offer the right mix of flexibility and the potential to create an open source model that should rapidly evolve into a gold standard within the 3G tech sphere.

System Specifications
Although Google claims that Honeycomb 3.0 has no specific hardware requirements, the general market consensus leans toward larger tablet models supported by Nvidia Tegra 2 processors. Yet, true to Google's initial assertion, Honeycomb remains supremely compatible with 7-inch and 10-inch releases with single-core processor, such as HTC's EVO 4G. As an operating system primarily tuned toward tablets and larger screens, it would be safe to assume that Android 3.0 is not a phone OS although Google promises some features in future smartphone operating system releases.

Interface and Home Screens
The basic interface for most Honeycomb tablets remains essentially the same, unlike past Android phone OS releases that often came with custom home screens and skin options, although custom skins are possible with releases from Samsung and HTC. As such the main home screens can be re-configured within five different spheres, and app customization is easy with quick clicks to modify any preloaded app icons and enough room to reorganize and embellish as the user pleases.

Although Honeycomb does in some ways remain essentially predefined, the customization options and widgets can sometimes get overwhelming. From weather and news headlines to shortcuts for apps, e-mail and browser bookmarks, you can even place media playlists and contact links as widgets. The initial home screen displays Google search fields, with both textual and voice input compatibility. Aside from icons for home, back and app switching, notifications for Wi-Fi and network support as well the battery stats for quick checks are always onscreen.

The apps drawer resembles a Blackberry home screen with well-segregated arrays of user-downloaded apps that can be organized within groups as desired directly within the home screen. While third-party app access appears to be limited, your Android Honeycomb tab will come with different manufacturer-specific, built-in apps and utilities preloaded along with carrier-specific apps installed depending on the network you sign up with.

Performance and User Experience
With in-built GPS navigation and Adobe Flash support, Android 3.0 enriches the user's tablet experience with a robust and reliable interface. Honeycomb offers a richer web browser, supported by its initial WebKit core that forms the backbone of most modern mobile browsing systems. Widgets are perhaps an inherent part of Honeycomb's strength as much as it is Android's Achilles heel. Still, the level of configuration that the Android Honeycomb brings is truly unmatched, and no iPad is likely to come close to the versatile, custom fit of a Honeycomb tab.

Acer iconia tab A100 Review (Android Honeycomb Tablet)

android honeycomb tablet Videos

Review of the Acer iconia tab a100 review. Covers: design, ports, Android Honeycomb, and includes a comparison of the Kindle Fire at the end! Overall: Great little tablet, that runs Android Honeycomb great! I would recommend this to anybody in the market for a tablet. A100 vs Kindle Fire? Not to hurt anybodys feelings, but I would choose this tablet over the Kindle Fire ANY day. This can get up to 64 gigs of storage with the SD slot, it can use Android Market AND Amazon App Store (Kindle can only use amazon) and this runs Honeycomb, soon (April) to be Ice Cream Sandwich. It doesn't run a wussy version of Android 2.3, like the Kindle Fire does. Its just a better Tablet. ! Please subscribe. :)

Android Tablet Reviews: Honeycomb OS

Android Tablet Reviews: Honeycomb OS: android honeycomb tablet

Android Honeycomb is the current Google Android OS. It is designed only for tablets and is therefore optimized with even more features and benefits than you would normally find on a regular smartphone running on Froyo or Gingerbread.

The Honeycomb has received a dramatic improvement compared to Gingerbread in several aspects. One of the most obvious examples is enhanced applications in Honeycomb. Many of the native apps on Android have been completely rethought and enhanced, such as the email, browser, android market, Google Talk, and YouTube.

Email. The email apps (both Gmail and everything else) use a two-pane system. So it makes perusing your inbox and various folders much easier. Moreover these apps use a new API open to all devs called "fragments" which allow for sliding panes. This means the left pane starts out listing all available folders for that email account, but when you choose something from the panel on the right side, that then slides over to the left and replaces the folder list. Consequently on the right side, now I can see the entire email thread or full chat that I requested pull up, and I can see the whole conversation.
Browser. The biggest enhancement is tabbed browsing. You don't need to press a menu button within the browser to see all of the open windows. They're just presented like the Chrome browser on your computer, with the Action Bar showing off multiple tabs that you can switch to rather easily.
Android Market. "My apps" section shows a listing of all apps you've downloaded, updated and/or installed. You can dictate whether the apps will have updates automatically installed, and you can open each individual app directly from this section. This listing of My Apps also notices if any updates are available, keeps me apprised of download/install progress, and is easy to scroll through.
Google Talk. The integration of native video chat and Google Talk app makes it more convenient and accessible for anyone to use it. Even if you have a tablet and your business partner doesn't, just have them sign on to Google Talk on their computer and you're all set for a good video chat.
YouTube. The YouTube app was built with Renderscript, and it's easy to tell because of the extra 3D renderings done up here. The app is set up like a grid with several rows and columns, but when you scroll left or right this grid curves with the scrolling, acting as if it's on a carousel.

With its enhanced applications, Honeycomb has been the biggest leap Android has taken in its growth and development ever since the OS came out. It has made Android much smarter in the process. As a result, Honeycomb will make Android tablets much more competitive with the iPad than existing Android devices running earlier versions of the Android software.
