Android tablets are a dime a dozen, but the folks behind the ThinkPad line of notebooks are looking to change that. The ThinkPad Tablet by Lenovo brings professional styling, sturdy construction and special features to the tablet that are unique to the genre. Android is ready for the boardroom.
The ThinkPad Tablet has typical black styling familiar of the line of laptops, and while a bit heavier than some Android tablets there is no mistaking the solid construction. The attention to detail is evident in every aspect of the tablet, from the solid casing to the buttons beneath the screen covered with Corning Gorilla Glass. The ThinkPad Tablet will satisfy anyone wanting to give a professional image.
The specs of the ThinkPad are fairly typical of the genre, but Lenovo has included some special stuff to make this stand out from the crowd. Foremost is the use of an N-Trig dual digitizer which allows optional pen input on the screen in addition to the typical multi-touch input. The pen rests in a silo on the tablet when not in use.
Lenovo put a full SD slot on the ThinkPad, and a regular USB port that works with the optional portfolio case. The USB port can be used with standard USB flash drives for file exchange. File transfer can be done via the SD slot, too.
The 10.1-inch IPS screen is not the brightest I have tested, but it has outstanding viewing angles which is a good trait for a tablet. The front-facing camera does a decent job with video chatting, and the speaker, while not anything special, is quite loud for a tablet.
In a move rare for a Honeycomb android tablet PC , the ThinkPad Tablet has four hardware buttons beneath the screen (in portrait orientation). These are a Lock Screen Rotation, Browser launcher, Back, and a Home button. These buttons are very rigid and can be hard to press. I find I end up using soft buttons on the screen out of habit.
There are two cameras on the ThinkPad, a 2MP front-facing camera and a 5MP camera on the back. The front camera delivered decent video chatting using Google Talk. The rear camera is nothing spectacular, as I found photos taken with it to be very basic. This tablet will not replace your basic point-and-shoot given its lackluster quality photos, not to mention its unwieldy size for snapping shots.
The ThinkPad construction used in the tablet make it easily the most rugged tablet I have used. It is heavy at 1.6 pounds, but it feels nice and solid in the hand.
The Tegra 2 performed as expected, and I found the overall performance of the ThinkPad Tablet to be similar to other Honeycomb tablets I have used. As is common with Android, I found the ThinkPad to occassionally lag at times for just an instant. It wasn't bad enough to be aggravating, but enough to be noticeable. The lags happened frequently when the screen was auto-rotating and when unlocking after sleeping.
Battery life is decent, and I easily went all day on a charge. I would rate it similar to the Galaxy Tab 10.1 I use, perhaps a little shorter.
The ThinkPad Tablet is not the cheapest Honeycomb tablet out there but it is the best constructed by far. The rubberized ThinkPad coating makes this look and feel as comfortable in the boardroom as the living room. Lenovo is stuffing lots of software on the tablet, and while some will not appreciate all of this I think most will find the apps to be useful.
The ThinkPad logo on the back of the tablet is not just for show, with a red LED that indicates when power is on. The ThinkPad engineering and quality are reflected in all aspects of the tablet, and professionals will appreciate the package.
This China tablet PC is not the thinnest nor the lightest available, but with the optional pen and the keyboard folio it is the most versatile tablet I have used.

Build quality is excellent with a great game in a sturdy magnesium chassis and durable plastic panels. Chassis flex is not present everywhere, feeling its strong position as a board or a laptop on your desk. Support for the keyboard is very good, with only a small amount of movement to the right of the keyboard on your hard drive. This was not seen unless you really tight. The top half of the laptop feels very strong, it is important that each tablet could be the dam along the edge of the screen. The plastic bezel is firm under strict control and under strong pressure not to transmit any force on the edge of the screen, which can cause color distortion.
A potential weakness of each tablet is the design that the hinge rotation, which also happens to be one of the first part you see in the examination of convertible tablets. Lenovo uses a mechanism of rotation of 360 degrees on the X200 Tablet, which allows you to rotate the screen in both directions. Compared to the XT2 Dell with its 1.8 "hard drive, the X200 Tablet features a standard 2.5 drive" system that maintains a minimum of delay. Go with the faster hard drive, Lenovo also offers options for faster processors. New versions of Windows 7 in the X200 is a 2.16 GHz Intel SL9600. The heat and noise
In our tests we found the X200 Tablet running fairly cool and quiet. Fan noise in our tests was low, with the fan below the murmur of stressful activities. In normal use, the fan stays off most of the time, only to come short distance to get air through the frame. Cooler temperatures seem to manage the system very well, keeping the chassis from the cold to the touch, even after the system for most of the morning. Lower temperatures are in degrees Fahrenheit.
Battery
Battery life was very good in any system, but his lack of touch screen X200 Tablet has been able to take a big advantage in this department. Both models are equipped with the 66Wh 8-cell dell inspiron 1525 battery that extends to the rear of the chassis X200. An optional 4-cell battery is available, but I do not see why anyone would want that in addition to aesthetics. The standard X200 Tablet with the screen brightness to 70%, wireless active and Windows 7 into a dynamic power profile, with 8 hours and 48 minutes remaining. Conclusion
The Lenovo ThinkPad X200, we tested very well together in almost all categories. Battery life was excellent, with the 8-cell battery, up to 8 hours and 48 minutes in the sunlight readable version, and 5 hours and 32 minutes on the touch-screen model. Quality of the screen on both models has been phenomenal, with the sunlight readable screen to be one of the best screens we've seen in our office. Not only was suitable for outdoor use, but the color saturation was high and viewing angles were perfect with the IPS.
The overall performance is very good in both models, with minimal impact on Fujitsu Lifebook t4210 Battery life or the temperature of the system. Given the low price compared to the XT2 Dell established Thurs ThinkPad X200 is a clear winner. However, the slates are also concerned to have limited functionality that could restrict their use in enterprises. While the convertible-tablet market is small, enterprise users need laptops for more than viewing content.
It could be said that Lenovo stands as one of the pioneers in the slate market with the new introduction of IdeaPad U1 Hybrid which includes a detachable touch screen. The Lenovo U1 Hybrid allows users to surf the Web, play games or read e-books.

Lenovo has recently announced its new lineup of ThinkPad ultraportable laptops including a tablet.
However, it was rumored that the first tablet in a slate form was introduced in the 1990s by IBM. The devices were developed for insurance companies to carry out certain tasks, but the design was ultimately carried over to the new ThinkPad clamshell laptops.
According to Lenovo, its new X201 Tablet will be powered by Windows 7 or Windows XP operating system. Besides that, the device is also said to go with up to 500GB or SSD storage of up to 128GB. I've been using it now for about a year and loving it the whole time. It works better than I had hoped, and I have no idea why tablet PCs were always marketed to the "business" customer and not to the artist. How useful is pressure sensitivity in spreadsheets anyway? Anywho, the video is a little long (2 parts) but I tried to cover most of the basic considerations. Thanks to 720p portrait size, it's probably only really watchable in full-screen mode.
