Lenovo ThinkPad X201 Tablet newly unveiled :

The new tablet of Lenovo is codenamed as ThinkPad X201 which goes with a 12.1-inch screen. The device is said to be powered by Intel Core i7 processors and sports a traditional convertible tablet design, with a keyboard, and a touch screen that can be rotated and placed on top of the keyboard to record data.

 

It seems a trend that there are more and more demands for a new generation of tablets or so-called handheld devices on which can browse the Internet, play games, read e-books and view video content. Lenovo advertises that the slates usually have software-based on-screen keyboards.

 

However, the slates are also concerned to have limited functionality that could restrict their use in enterprises. While the convertible-tablet market is small, enterprise users need laptops for more than viewing content.

 

It could be said that Lenovo stands as one of the pioneers in the slate market with the new introduction of IdeaPad U1 Hybrid which includes a detachable touch screen. The Lenovo U1 Hybrid allows users to surf the Web, play games or read e-books.

Lenovo has recently announced its new lineup of ThinkPad ultraportable laptops including a tablet.

 

However, it was rumored that the first tablet in a slate form was introduced in the 1990s by IBM. The devices were developed for insurance companies to carry out certain tasks, but the design was ultimately carried over to the new ThinkPad clamshell laptops.

 

According to Lenovo, its new X201 Tablet will be powered by Windows 7 or Windows XP operating system. Besides that, the device is also said to go with up to 500GB or SSD storage of up to 128GB. Furthermore, integrated wireless connectivity options include Wi-Fi, WiMax and Bluetooth. Lenovo X201 Tablet weighs about 3.57 pounds (1.62 kilograms) with a 4-cell battery and 3.95 pounds with an 8-cell battery.

And goes with a 12.1-inch screen.

 

The touch screen can be rotated and placed on top of the keyboard to record data.

 

Lenovo advertises that the slates usually have software-based on-screen keyboards.

 

ThinkPad X201 supports multitouch gestures like two fingers scrolling and pinching to zoom.

The newly launched Sony S1 Tablet though similar in looks like regular tablet, but there is one twist; its back panel is thicker at one end in comparison to the other, thus gives an angled view while placed on a flat surface. The S2's clamshell design indicates that the tablet can be folded down into half size and simply stock up in a small purse or bag. Sony representatives assert that it can be tucked into a pocket, but the pocket needs to be a seriously spacious. The size of the S1's screen is about 9.4 inches. It features Quick View and Quick Touch, two Sony-engineered augmentation of Android 3.0.

Quick View proffer what Sony representatives acknowledged was the delusion of a site loading much quickly. Side by side, two S1 tablets, one in regular Wi-Fi mode and one in Quick View mode, weighed down the similar Web site. In fact, Quick View encumbered the site around eight seconds faster than the other tablet, but the trap is quite easy: Quick View oodles a Web page's imagery before loading Java Script, presenting just the outward show of a completely loaded page. Similar to the forthcoming Vizio Tablet, this Sony tablet has in built IR port controls. This permits it to control televisions, Blu-ray players along with other devices and the fact is not just the ones contrived by Sony makes the S1 a partially universal remote. Different from Vizio Tablet pc, S1 has Honeycomb. Sony's Priority, as well as sputter, will be preloaded, and the S1 has the potential to "flip" movies you're watching on your tablet to a TV screen, provided the small screen is DLNA-friendly. Sony S1price is quite appealing.
