The Google Android tablet announcement was made late in December of 2011. At which time, company executives released the information that Google would be building its own tablet - which they feel confident will compete with some of the best and most popular tablets on the market today. (move over Ipad?)

Obviously, this tablet is being engineered and endorsed by Google would have to be of high quality. Google wouldn't waste their namesake on a product that they thought would flop. CEO's from Google expect their tablet to compete with high-end tablets that do more than Ereading such as the Ipad. And prices should be competitive with Apple tablets as well, with announcements; being recently made that this tablet put it in the $ 500 range.

Here are just some of the things rumored in the tech industry about what consumers could expect from a Google Android tablet.

The first of course is screen resolution. Today, the top screen resolution from a tablet is 2560 x 1600, which are the specifications for the Samsung tablet. The Samsung tablet also has a large 11.6 inch screen, which may or may not be benefit to some consumers. Google is looking to at least match or exceed those screen resolutions so that their product would be able to rival the expected 2048 x 1536 pixels of the up and coming Ipad.

This device will also boast a quad core processor, which is virtually unheard of in the tablet market today. The largest processor for a table right now goes to the Ipad and the Transformer Prime. These processors are great for gamers and expectations are high that Google will be trying to compete in that market as well.

And with the introduction of this device, will also be the exceptional feature of being one of the only tablets on the market that uses the Android 4.0 system. The constant upgrade of Android systems is keeping app developers hopping - as consumers are constantly looking for the next best thing. It isn't clear yet, but it looks like the Google Android tablet will be an Android 4 tablet.

Another area of improvement that will be felt when you put the new Google tablet up against the Ipad, is that of camera and video capability. Right now, while the Apple and other tablet cameras are substantial (the best being the Toshiba Android tablet), the new Google tablet will try to reach above and beyond to manufacture a tablet that makes it nearly unnecessary to own a camera.

For obvious reasons, the tech industry is excited to see what Google will deliver. Initial rumors said that Google had hired ex- Apple employees to over see the development of the new Google tablet - which you know will be 100% compatible with everything Google.

  7. It does look like a nice piece of tech and we were a little surprised not to see a Tegra 3 lurking within... Still, it sets new benchmarks in weight and thinness and that may have been the compromise.
