The new Nexus One 'super phone' has now been launched on Vodafone, this is the Google phone to be sold directly by the internet company and has been available since February as a SIM Free device.

Now the Google Nexus One is available on a range of pay monthly Vodafone deals and with the added network subsidy is available free to consumers.

This is the first time that the Nexus One has been released by any UK network, up until now consumers had to buy the new Google phone as a SIM Free handset and then either use their existing SIM card or order a new Pay As You Go or contract SIM card to use in their phone.

Vodafone are the only network operator to have the exclusive rights to sell the Nexus One with a network connection in the UK, this latest Google phone is being marketed as a 'Super Phone' but already faces stiff competition from rival handsets.

The Nexus One is actually manufactured by HTC who have also now released their own version of this handset called the HTC Desire, the differences are stark with the new Desire trumping the Google phone in many areas.

Firstly the Google Nexus One uses the older style track ball for physical menu navigation which is prone to wear over time whilst the HTC Desire incorporates the manufacturers latest TrackPad technology which acts like an optical mouse with the user swiping their finger across the pad.

Secondly the HTC Desire is able to support Flash 10.1 whilst the Nexus One does not, although not overly important it does mean that Desire users will be able to view many more websites.

HTC have also included their Sense user interface into their own Desire model which is renowned as a smooth user experience, the Desire also incorporates the latest FriendStream application which is also present in their new HTC Legend model, this brings together social networking updates, emails, IMs and text messages from the users contacts list into a continuous stream keeping the user fully up to date with their friends conversations and online activity.

Features that remain the same throughout both models include the 3.7 inch AMOLED touch scree, powerful 1GHz processor, 5.0 mega pixel camera and obvious access and support for the Android Market thanks to the Android v2.1 operating system.

The screen size and processing speed of the Nexus One and Desire models is only matched by the recently released HTC HD2, Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 and Samsung Wave models whilst the camera resolution is now pretty standard for mid to top range models including the Nokia N900, Nokia N97 Mini, Nokia X6, LG BL40 and Motorola Milestone.

There is no news as to how long if at all the exclusive launch period of the Google Nexus One is on the Vodafone network and as to whether other network operators will eventually be able to sell this new Google phone.

The Nexus One and HTC Desire are two of a growing range of new Android powered handsets to hit the market in 2010.

I've been using it now for about a year and loving it the whole time. It works better than I had hoped, and I have no idea why tablet PCs were always marketed to the "business" customer and not to the artist. How useful is pressure sensitivity in spreadsheets anyway? AOL Saves Nearly $5 Million by Decommissioning 10,000 Servers

In recent news it has been discovered that AOL has decommissioned nearly 10,000 servers, saving the company almost $5 million on its way to winning a competition that highlights the cost of running inefficient or underutilized IT equipment.

Nobody really realizes how much underutilized or inefficient servers can cost until they see the numbers. Decommissioning a 1U rack server could potentially save you $500 a year in energy costs, $500 a year in operating system licenses and $1,500 a year in hardware maintenance, and that's just one server!

Uptime Institute is behind the competition, which it is calling the Server Roundup Contest. Companies that participate could move workloads to newer, virtualized equipment or even into the cloud. In addition to that, each company had to provide paperwork to verify what they had done, which included work requests and recycling receipts and even photographs.

AOL decommissioned 9,484 servers over the past year, which accounted for nearly 1.4 of its worldwide servers. The savings included nearly $1.65 million in energy bills, $2.2 million in operating systems licenses and $62,000 in maintenance costs. AOL also gained $1.2 million from scrap and resale while reducing its carbon emissions by 30 million tons.

AOL was the best in the competition by far, beating out five other companies. The closest competitor was NBCUniversal, which removed 284 servers. However, AOL may have benefited from the fact that the company is in the middle of a multi-year effort to reinvent itself from an internet access provider to a content and advertising company. A majority of the servers AOL replaced were running applications and web properties that had become useless, according to the company.

With the continuous development of technology, gadgets and devices are becoming more portable and easy to use. One of these devices is the tablet PC or popularly referred to as tablet. Tablet PC, short for a tablet personal computer, is very similar to a small laptop. There are just key characteristics which make tablet PC distinct from the laptop.

Tablet PCs are equipped with a rotatable touch screen, which makes the tablet easier and more convenient to use compared with the laptop. There is no need to use a keyboard in order to encode when using the tablet. There is software than can act as virtual keyboards for typing.

Tablets can also recognize handwriting when recognizing software is installed on the tablet. There are digitizers that allow your hand to rest without misguiding the computer.

There are different types of tablet PCs or devices:

1. Slates. These tablets are touch screen and have no physical keyboard. It cannot be rotated nor moved, so there is less risk in damaging any physical part of the tablet. Since there is no physical keyboard, it is light and very portable. Often, they are more affordable compared with convertibles.

2. Convertibles. They are usually in the form of computers and can be used as tablet PCs. These tablet devices usually have a physical keyboard and are usually used as the same type as laptops. Businessmen and professionals prefer this type since it could be used for different activities.

3. Thin-client slates. These devices, which are also referred to as lean or slim client, rely on another program or another computer for its function. Simply, thin clients cannot function alone, since it relied heavily on the network server for its functions. Basically, thin clients can just be used for sending and receiving emails and web surfing. Thin clients do not even require a hard drive.

4. Hybrid tablet PCs. These are notebooks/ netbooks whose keyboards can be rotated to get it out of the way and store it behind the screen. With the keyboard hidden, it can be used as a touch screen tablet which can be used with a stylus or a digitizing pen. This is the most functional portable device for some professionals since it can be used with Windows applications.

The type of tablet PC that you will use will depend mainly on how you will use the device. There are some professionals who prefer working with a slate while others find using hybrid or convertibles more appropriate for their daily functions.

The Tablet PC(full name: Tablet Personal Computer, referred to as: Tablet PC, the Flat the Pc, the Tablet, Slates), is a small, portable PC, touch screen as the basic input device. It has a touch screen (also known as tablet technology) allows the user to operate via a stylus or digital pen instead of the traditional keyboard or mouse. Hardware: One major difference between iOS and Android is that iOS is exclusive to the iPad, while Android is open source and is being used by a number of different companies. This effectively means that the iPad and iOS are joined at the hip - you can't run the iPad without iOS. The iPad therefore has much more restriction of choice than other tablets, and much tighter pricing. However, those choices that are on the market are all good quality, and the hardware and software do work together harmoniously - crashes are very rare on the iPad.

Android, by contrast, is used in many different tablets from a large number of makers. From Blackberry to Samsung, you have a much wider choice of tablet PC to suit your budget and particular needs. However, you do need to do your homework. Some companies have customised Android and improved it, but some may not work as well and might still be based on older Android releases.
