There you are: you have finally decided to purchase a graphics tablet. Whatever your reasons may be for purchasing one, you are now faced with a very major decision: amongst all the numerous graphics tablets out there, which one would best suit your needs and your budget?

Wacom is without any doubt, a genius when it comes to graphics tablet (also known as pen tablet) technology and is continually improving their products. Due to these frequent upgrades, this article will only touch the following Wacom models: Bamboo, Bamboo Fun (a successor and an improved model over the Graphire series), Intuos3 (the 3rd generation of Intuos) and Cintiq.

The basics

All Wacom graphics tablets are easy to install and use, thanks to Wacom's Plug & Play technology. Every Wacom tablet is compatible with Macintosh and Windows, supports widescreen format, offers application and tool settings, provides a comfortable design and comes equipped with a detachable USB cable, and a programmable, cordless and battery free ergonomic pen. Therefore, your decision will be based on the main differences between these major models. Those include: pressure sensitivity, resolution and size.

Pressure sensitivity of the pen tip and its eraser( when present) is measured in levels: 512 levels for the Bamboo line and 1024 levels, the highest thus far, for the Intuos3 and Cintiq models.

Resolution, measured in lines per square inch, is marked at 2,540 for the Bamboo series and 5,080 for the Intuos3 and Cintiq models. Based on these two differences alone, if one needs or desires more precision and sharper results, the Intuos3 or the Cintiq are by far the better choices.

Size relates to the active area of the graphics tablet, which is the drawing/writing area and not the actual size of the tablet. If space is really a tight issue, make sure you take into consideration the actual dimensions of the graphics tablet. Since the active area of a tablet matches your computer screen no matter what size it is, don't let a smaller sized Wacom tablet fool you: the smaller sizes offer just as many features as the larger ones. Size becomes a concern when considering desk space, laptop use, portability, and user preferences. Bamboo, Bamboo Fun Small and Medium, Intuos3 4x6 and 6x8 are all wonderful options for small working environments.

Bringing pen to tablet: beginners

Let's start by comparing the three Bamboo models.

Bamboo standard (4x6 approx.) with its sleek black piano finish, is a wonderful improvement over the past Wacom models. It is perfect for any office, be it at home or at work and a perfect traveling companion. Specified mostly for office work rather than artistic tasks, it performs very well by working with your computer's existing software for marking up documents, jotting down notes and writing your signature. So if you do not need any extra art related software, and the budget is as tight as your desk space, this is the perfect graphics tablet for you.

(Bamboo standard is the only Wacom tablet, of the newer models, which does not come with a matching mouse, or any software. The accompanying Bamboo pen does not have an eraser which could prove to be inconvenient.)

Bamboo Fun (Small) (4x6 approx.) is terrific for children and beginners with creative minds. With four colors to choose from, (Blue, White, Black and Silver) you can personalize any office, home or at work, with your preferred color. However, despite the great Wacom quality and advantages, the active area might prove to be too small for elaborate projects.

Bamboo Fun (Medium) (5x9 approx.) which also comes in the same 4 different colors as the Small version, is ideal for beginners and excellent for young students, digital photographers and more creative users. The new possibilities range from personalizing your work with your signature or other creations to touching-up photos.

Bringing pen to tablet: intermediate

The Intuos3 line, in its cool charcoal gray color and with an extra year warranty, replaces the Bamboo's Touch Ring (at the top of the tablet) with a Touch Strip (at the side of the tablet for scrolling). The position of the ExpressKeys (for shortcuts) has also changed from the top (on the Bamboo) to the side (on the Intuos3). The Intuos3 also adds tilt control to the mix, an added bonus for any serious user. It even offers more pen tips for different writing and drawing results with the one accompanying cushioned Grip Pen which provides extra comfort and reduces tension. Extra accessories are available for the Intuos3 such as an array of different pen types ranging from the classic pen for a more natural, day-to-day work and feel to the sophisticated airbrush for unbelievably realistic paintings and other art designs. The whole Intuos3 series is specially designed for wide screens and multiple monitor work stations. If you are a serious graphic artist or you spend long hours using artistic software, an Intuos3 is certainly a worthwhile investment, and most graphics professionals would call it an essential tool. That said, there are still 6 different sizes to chose from!

Intuos3 4x6 is easily portable with more features than the Bamboo series and perfect for small desk spaces yet affordable. However, this graphics tablet is not recommended for left-handed users because the single set of ExpressKeys and Touch Strip is on the left side of the drawing tablet. (All the other Intuos3 sizes have dual ExpressKeys and a Touch Strip on both the left and right sides of the tablet.)

Intuos3 6x8 benefits more professional work yet is still an excellent size for cramped spaces and is a perfect traveling companion for the laptop and ideal for serious students on the go.

Intuos3 6x11 targets the CAD users, and technical illustrators which may desire a larger surface area and artists who are used to drawing or painting with large sweeping motions. It is also optimized for work in single screen or for multiple monitor work stations and is ideal for editing HDTV videos. Remember, the larger your tablet surface, the more you will need to move your arms which may be viewed as a disadvantage to some users.

Intuos3 9x12 greatly assists professional photo-retouching artists, illustrators and industrial designers with challenging endeavors, allowing for wider sweeping strokes.

Intuos3 12x12, the only square tablet, caters to professionals with elaborate artistic ideas and highly detailed expectations like professional technicians and designers in any industry including automobile, textile and fashion.

Intuos3 12x19 targets sophisticated and high-performance work involving precision and accurate results like professional digital imagery, audio-visual technicians, graphic artists, and architects. It offers optimal use of wide screen and double monitors and is excellent for creating HDTV videos.

Bringing pen to screen: intermediate and professional

Cintiq is the combination of the Intuos3 technology with an LCD monitor. The result: a state of the art monitor that allows you to write or draw directly on the screen with unparalleled accuracy! The fact that it is detachable and totally adjustable to any angle and for any purpose (on your desk or on your knees) makes it the holy grail of the Wacom graphics tablets and obviously, the most expensive. The Cintiq series (which comes with an Intuos3 Grip Pen for optimal comfort and fatigue prevention) will greatly improve work flow and efficiency while providing spectacular, detailed results in any professional field ranging from industrial designers, audio-editors and animators to doctors, educators and story-board creators requiring faster visual effects. This interactive pen display, with leading edge technology, literally becomes your canvas or your easel.

Yet again, there are 3 Cintiq's to choose from. Size is measured diagonally, from the smaller 12.1", and mid size 20.1" to the large 21.3". The native resolution and the total number of pixels (1.0, 1.8 and 1.9 million pixels respectively) are what set them apart the most.

Cintiq 12WX (1280x800 native resolution) is very light (4.4lbs) and portable thanks to an extra cable and a converter box to keep it small and lightweight. It's half the price of the other Cintiq models. However, due to its small size, you may want to add this to a multi-monitor set-up. If you are a very serious artist or technical designer, it is recommended that you save for the next model up.

Cintiq 20WSX (1680x1050 native res.) is every professional's dream. This 20 lb unit is the preferred choice by many due to its price and size. Less costly than its larger brother, it basically offers the same features.

Cintiq 21UX (1600x1200 native res.) is the top of the line for pixel perfect results. Weighing in at 22.4 lbs, it's the only Cintiq with an aspect ratio of 4:3 (standard resolution). All the others have 16:10. See it in action by going to YouTube.com and searching for Cintiq... it is absolutely incredible!

When trying to choose between all of these great Wacom contenders, wallet and desk size will always be an issue. Everyday users for home and basic office duties will delight in Bamboo, Bamboo Fun and Intuos3 4x6. Professionals at home or at the office in all fields will require and thoroughly enjoy Intuos3 6x8 and up. (Academic specials for students and schools do exist for the Bamboo and the Intuos3.) Serious illustrators, educators, technical designers and artists demanding elaborate detail and high pixel perfection will absolutely love the freedom, comfort, efficiency and convenience of drawing directly on the screen... and for many users - that is priceless.

What I am trying to get at is the fact that many tablets I discover across are given to me as a check for a month at a time or even during an industry trip, I dont require to establish my decision for the top tablet PC 2011 on the fact an unit might deserve to be the top. My choice for the top touchscreen PC 2011 will be based on the tablet I use everyday because I was so impressed that I went and bought my own, therefore my choice for best handheld PC 2011 is the Ipad 2 64GB WiFi.top handheld PC 2011
best touchscreen PC 2011 - Why the iPad 2
Now then before you go and rip my decision for the top tablet PC 2011 let me just say this nomination does not come easily, when I spend my hard earn cash on something like this it has to be special and the Ipad 2 is. In my opinion I still think other brands are chasing the iPad and at best they can only copy its specification, yes there is the flash v no flash debate and then there is the entire thing about what is the best Operating system. I use my iPad 2 everyday it was this thought that lended its name to my website name, it has never let me down but I am open to suggestions. This is why just the other day I wrote about my nominations for the top tablet PC 2011, it is because of my feelings towards the iPad 2 why I excluded it from the nominations for top handheld PC 2011 the other week.
The other thing I must say is the iPad 2 is my selection for the top tablet PC 2011 because it delivers every month by being totally reliable, I actually purchased the first generation iPad which I gave to my mom after she had a breakdown at work. Angry birds helped her recover by letting her relax, so much so I didn't have the heart to take it back from her plus it was a perfect enough excuse to get hold of the brand spanking iPad 2. Although my iPad accompanies me to work my laptop is my merchandising tool where as my iPad fills the gap for everything else, everything just feels more fun on the iPad. See I told you it was personal the iPad went beyond me and helped someone come through the hardest period of their life, making this decision for best handheld PC 2011 extra poignant.

About the Author

I could of course go on about the specs and crispness of the display, but my summary would be that none of the other tablets performed quite as well or were as easy to use. So with that bombshell out of the way please send in your accounts and choices of your choice for best tablet PC 2011. Once I have received enough nominations I will produce a comprehensive top ten list before the end of the year for our official best handheld PC 2011 list.

Windows 8 Released to the World, But is it Good?

The wait is finally over, Microsoft Windows 8 is officially here. The newest iteration of the world's most popular computer operating system was released today after months of demos and commercials showcasing it. Microsoft has said that over 1.24 billion hours of testing went into the new operating system and is in many ways hedging the future of the company on the new release. Because of the increased pressure from Apple and Google, Microsoft wants to assure consumers that they are still relevant in today's world.

Windows 8 marks a radical change for Microsoft in terms of the layout of their operating system. Gone is the traditional start menu, replaced by an entirely new start interface with "live tiles" and an array of downloadable applications from the all new Windows Store. Current windows users will notice a drastic change from Windows 7 to Windows 8. While the traditional "desktop" is still there, it is no longer the center of the computer's processes, and more of a "background application". Part of Microsoft's reason for making such drastic changes to the interface is to make their operating system compatible across more devices. Microsoft is trying to not only keep hold of the traditional PC market, but also branch into tablets and smartphones. Windows 8 is truly built more for new hybrid, touch-based computers and tablets more so than traditional desktops, though it is built to run on those as well.

Having already downloaded Windows 8 to my laptop early this morning, I have only had a short time to interact with it. That being said, I noticed one thing right away, there is a steep learning curve. The interface, short of the traditional desktop which is now essentially an "app", is completely different. Even for someone that is very familiar with the way Windows computers work, navigating Windows 8 is in many ways a whole new experience. That is not to say that all is bad. I do like the modern interface that Microsoft has introduced, and I like many of the new, full screen applications that are available from the Windows Store. I also like the deep integration with all Microsoft services, if you have an email account, that allows many settings and files to be synced over the cloud.

There are, however, plenty of drawbacks, at least currently, to Windows 8. For starters, nothing is where it used to be. Just trying to turn the computer off takes multiple steps that may take users a while to figure out. Also while Windows 8 is "easy" to navigate, it is more so for a touch screen rather than a traditional computer. A traditional keyboard and mouse feel "out of place" in this new user interface, save for when working with the traditional desktop. I understand Microsoft wanting to make Windows 8 touch friendly for tablets and new touch-enabled computers, but traditional computers upgraded to the new OS feel a bit neglected. In addition, the current offering of applications in the Windows store is very limited, and until more popular applications are added, it will suffer.

Overall, my opinion of Windows 8 is still up in the air. While I think it is a must have if you are looking for a new, touch enabled PC, it is not yet a necessary upgrade for existing computers. If Microsoft continues to add new, relevant applications to its Windows Store and allows easier ways to interact with the traditional desktop, then I think it will truly be useful to everyone. It remains to be seen how the radical change in design will impact sales of the operating system, but one thing is certain right now, it is a new age for Microsoft and for the future of personal computers.

Buying Cheap Tablets

Buying Cheap Tablets: tablet pc cheap

Tablets are one of the fastest growing products on the market today. Tablets are similar to computers in their functionality purposes, but are much different in how they actually work. Tablets are all touchscreen operated, and are very small and compact. There is no need to buy a huge desktop or a super expensive laptop when you are going to be surfing the web or submitting a Facebook status.

Tablets have redesigned the way personal computer are being used. There are many brand of Tablets on the market today. Some of the big companies are Apple, Motorola, and Samsung. Each of them have their own specific style to them creating their own self being. A lot of good websites are out there that give great overviews of the different Tablets. Tablets are great for many different things in your everyday life. One of the key qualities is the fact that they are so simple to run. Always look up your information about a Tablet that you are thinking of purchasing. Now picking the right tablet is a key when thinking about purchasing one. Many of the tablets are powered by Android, which in my opinion is the best. There is also tablets that have windows, and last but not least is the Apple iPad. Many people are huge Apple fans and will never buy anything but Apple products. Never purchase anything before checking it out and doing your research. Many people will tell you that Apple is the only way to go, or android is the best to have.

Play around with both of them and try to figure out what fits you best. It is not about what other people think, it's about what makes you feel most comfortable. The Archos 70 might be, if not the best bang for your buck in the sub 300 dollar android tablet market. It has all the features most people want and then some. Archos is a name brand European company and not some Asian knock off. The Archos 70 has a 7 inch 800 x 480 pixel high-resolution capacitive touch screen, not the inferior resistive touch screen found on most cheap tablets. It features a 1 GHz ARM Cortex A8 processor, 8 GB hard drive, expandable to 250 GB hard drive.

Comes installed with Android 2.2, and has front facing camera for video chat, with a kick stand. The battery is pretty great you can enjoy about 36 hours of audio, 7 hours of video, or 10 hours Web browsing on a single charge. But the most appealing feature of the Archos 70 is its size and weight, measuring just.43 inches thick and weighing in at 11 ounces; it is an absolute pleasure to play around with. You could easily hold it in one hand and forgot that you are holding it.

Enough with the features, what can it do? The Archos is great for playing games, supports flash natively meaning you could browse any website that has flash without getting any errors, and plays games effortlessly with its 3D graphic accelerator. It has HDMI out, and you can connect it to HD display and use the Archos 70 as your controller. You can also use it as movie player, go on Netflix or Youtube and stream high quality HD movies and videos to your TV.

Overall the Archos 70 starting at only 275 dollars is a great product for its price. It cost hundreds of dollars less than the Galaxy tab, while having many if not better features. For its price you could not ask for more.

Look, Design, Feel (8/10)

Nexus One is sleek, light and an exceptionally thin smartphone, but gives brilliant power to its visual applications to the delight of the user. The back cover is made from a rubber-like plastic, which boosts users' grip of the phone and it has 4-set of touch-sensitive controls that can be found right under the touch screen.

The Nexus One, which is built by HTC for Google, has an Android OS 2.1 on a 1 GHz Snapdragon processor. As the Nexus One applies the operating system of Google, it gives easy and convenient access to a variety of Google's online services such as email, calendar and navigation. It has a 512MB RAM, 512MB ROM, 4GB microSD in-box expandable to 32GB. It has a 3.7-inch wide WVGA (800 x 480 pixels) AMOLED touchscreen with 100,000:1 typical contrast ratio and 1ms typical response rate, wherein its high resolution, high pixel density organic light-emitting diode (OLED) display is close to perfection. The picture quality is very impressive, with great contrast and profusion of colors! It is just one of the best displays in the mobile market! Nexus One's 5-megapixel camera has autofocus and has a trackball navigation capability. It has a LED flash and a 720x480 video capture @ 20FPS, and dual microphones for noise cancelling. There is no slide-out keyboard for this smartphone because everything is done on its onscreen virtual keyboard.

There are 2 different shades of grey for the Nexus One. Physical buttons are almost invisible on this phone. The phone is grey, but it is available in two different grey shades. There are almost no physical buttons on the HTC Nexus One. It has only the volume rocker on the top left side of the phone and a power button on the top of the volume rocker. The front of the phone also features a trackball below the screen. The back of HTC Nexus One houses the 5 megapixel camera lend and a LED flash unit on its right.

Features (7/10)

The phone runs on the Android OS 2.1. The last version compresses the visual aspect of the OS and the 2.1 brings some fresh features such as Facebook integration, or Quick Contacts. With its 1GHz processor, it is not a pain in the pocket to buy all new hardware to take advantage of a smartphone's high-end capabilities.

The small white trackball of Nexus One is seemingly fabulous because it can be used to scroll up and scroll down in menus, and using the trackball makes web browsing fun and easy. It lights up upon receiving messages or calls and even on missed ones. The power on/off button is placed on top left, while there is a 3.5mm jack port on the right. The power button can be used to lock/unlock the device. This is one nice feature for left-handed users because this is the only button that can change the power from standby.

The microUSB port for charging can be found on the bottom side of the phone. Above the display are two hidden sensors for the light and proximity. On the back portion of the phone is the 5-megapixel camera with flash and a little loudspeaker to the right side. A Google logo can also be found in the middle of the smartphone and the logo of HTC near the bottom.

Live wallpapers with animated backgrounds enables interactive feature with the phone. However, this may entail added consumption to the battery while playing the features of the wallpapers. Nexus One has smooth animations in its Image Gallery wherein transitions and sorting options are made easy.

The high quality 5-megapixel built-in camera of the phone has the maximum resolution of 2592 x 1944 pixels. Taking photos at night time is never a problem with this phone.

With the Android 2.1 feature of this phone, it is possible to dictate messages such as SMS and emails to text, integrate multiple accounts in Gmail. There is also the QWERTY keyboard for those who do not choose to use the 'speech to text' feature. It easily plays H.263 videos, but unfortunately the phone has no DivX/XviD support. It can support.mp4,.3gp,.3g2,.m4v video formats though.

Other qualities of this smartphone include a calculator, a speakerphone, a compass, an A2DP stereo Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, text and multimedia messaging, and the user can access multiple Google applications like YouTube, Google Voice, Picasa, Google Talk, and Google Goggles.

Connectivity (7/10)

HTC Google Nexus One has all possible connectivity tools that must be included in a state-of-the-art device like the GPRS and EDGE class 10, HSDPA 7.2 Mbps and HSUPA 2 Mbps, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g, Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP, and microUSB 2.0. Nexus One can perform speeds of up to 5595 Kbit/ download and 4023 Kbit/s on Wi-Fi connection, 835 Kbit/s download and 56 Kbit/s upload on the Orange 3G+ network and 149 Kbit/s download and 89 Kbit/s upload on EDGE network.

Nexus One can be connected through T-Mobile, Verizon, AT&T and soon, Sprint. The user can use any of the mentioned telecom providers since the phone is an unlocked phone.

Performance (8/10)

The phone is easy to use, from power on/off button to the trackball. Its sensitivity to web connection is superb since it is powered by Google resources. Its multimedia features that include the 5-megapixel camera and video recording are impressive, except for the camera wherein taking photos during intense lighting is quiet a concern. However, capturing images at night time is remarkable. Crashing web connectivity is never a problem for this phone.

Value for Money (7/10)

Nexus One is quite expensive but with the features and applications included in this smartphone, its price is worth the purchase, especially for businessmen who will enjoy its fast and easy applications.

+ Beautiful LED screen (high resolution to date)

+ Responsive touch screen

+ Fast processing speed

+ Impressive Android 2.1 applications

Firefox 16 Re-released After Fix of Flaw

One day after suddenly pulling the latest version of its popular web browser off of their website, Mozilla has re-released Firefox 16 for download. Mozilla pulled the latest version of Firefox from their install page as a result of a discovered security flaw. The security flaw apparently allowed harmful and malicious websites to track and identify which websites the user had visited. This flaw was discovered by security researcher Gareth Heyes, who then publicly disclosed the vulnerability.

While Mozilla has stated that there is no evidence of this flaw "in the wild", Mozilla on Wednesday recommended that users who upgraded to version 16 downgrade back to 15.0.1. By noon Thursday, however, a new version, 16.0.1, was available for download and according to Mozilla, is now safe to download and use. Anyone that had already downloaded version 16 was upgraded to this newer version, along with an update for the Android version released Wednesday night.

The good news for Mozilla is that this security flaw appears to be minor and was one that they were able to quickly fix. Their browser Firefox, an open-source, free web browser, has enjoyed continued growth and success since its release in November of 2004, and now holds 22% of the global browser market share. With the continued competition from poplar web browsers such as Internet Explorer and Google Chrome, Mozilla has to ensure that their browser is safe and secure for users. It remains to be seen if any more security flaws will be discovered with the updated version, but for now it appears to be working well for Firefox.

The increasing amount of productivity, innovation and constant upgrading of computers, personal and business electronics has caused the technology industry to create a large market of consumers who are constantly buying, upgrading, selling and discarding millions of products each year. The average consumer replaces their computer or laptop every 3-4.5 years, 12-18 months for cell phones, smart phones and tablets.

By buying quality refurbished computers you can save your business thousands of dollars a year in discounted electronics purchases and extending the life of the electronics you already have. It's not always necessary to have the latest, just released last week, state of the art pc, phone, tablet and technology gadget. Many electronics can last for several years longer if properly maintained and components replaced with quality pre-used ones.

The largest benefit to your business that purchasing used and refurbished computers and other office equipment is of course the dramatic savings it offers. Most equipment can be purchased at up to 80% of its original cost. Purchasing office electronics from companies like Newport Computers ensures that these items have been thoroughly tested for quality assurance and function so that they work just like they were new.

Purchasing refurbished computers, laptops, used hardware, printers and other peripherals offers not only many benefits to your business including saving large amounts of money, but there are many other benefits to the planet as well.

Each year we discard millions of tons of computers, laptops, printers, scanners, keyboards, cell phones and other eWaste. Much of that likely consisted of components and electronics that could have been recycled and reused. Instead they often wind up being improperly disposed of which leads to a much bigger problem for us all.

These products contain many poisonous and toxic chemicals. The heavy metals lead, nickel, cadmium, and mercury that are found in most eWaste are all toxic and pose huge risks to humans and the environment if mismanaged and inappropriately disposed of.

Recycling eWaste conserves natural resources and energy waste, prevents air and water pollution, and prevents greenhouse gas emissions from creating new materials. By reducing our trash output, reusing what we already have, and recycling old products we can help protect the environment from further contamination and offset the energy exertion created by their production.

Recycling the two pounds of copper that you can find in an average PC saves the 618 pounds of waste rock produced by mining it, not to mention the energy necessary to do so. The same is true of other precious and semi-precious metals found amongst the various components of computers and hardware such as gold, platinum, silver and aluminum.

Newport Computer Services has continued to increase it's contribution to that offset and prevention of environmental damage. Newport now has a second U.S. facility in Morrisville, North Carolina and is in the process of expanding to Nevada, to serve the south and west of the United States.

Newport has a philosophy that there is a way to harmony by way of the "reduce, reuse, recycle" stream that flows through Asset Recovery, from businesses and consumers back to businesses and consumers. This isn't just a one-way flow; it's a cycle of commodities and value among clients, companies, partners and consumers where all can share in the value and help benefit the Earth.
