It's not news that Android is slowly taking over the smartphone world - Android has managed to capture over 50% of the new smartphone market in China. When you talk about tablet PCs however, Apple's iPad is still selling by the millions all over the world. If you are one of us though and feel that the iPad is a little too expensive, are cheap android tablets worth it? Or at least, possible?
China, pretty well known for its production of counterfeit devices as knockoffs of the iPhone and the iPod, has now brought forward a knock off iPad. The difference is that this runs on Android and is cheap! It's what you had been waiting for all this time - a tablet device that is not priced like the iPad and runs the more popular Android.
The cheap android tablet is quite amusingly named the "MINI iPad8 Inch Android1.6 Ebook Tablet PC UMPC MID Netbook", quite a heavy name for its starting price of $ 150. It features an 8-inch touchscreen, Ethernet and Wi-FI connectivity, a USB port, 88MB of built-in storage and an 800-MHz VIA processor. This, rather, cheap Android tablets runs version 1.6 of the Android OS.
To match the awesomeness, Chinavision has come up with their own ultra-cool Android tablet called the SuperPad. It runs on Android 2.2, has a 10.1 inch HD touchscreen, WIFI, HDMI, 4gb storage and a camera. Aptly named, the SuperPad does more than iPad just by having the Android OS anyway.
With access to the Google Marketplace via WiFi (or Ethernet for that matter), you can download those gazillions of apps you have been raving about on your Android smartphone. With 8-hour one-time-charge battery life will ensure you have long-running fun for cheaper, way cheaper than owning an iPad.
Why is This Promising?
With news of Android taking over the new smartphone market in China, the fact remains that China is still a new, immature market for Android. In plain English, this means that the market is bound to grow even more in the future, as awareness of the software grows and Android devices slowly penetrate the masses. This carries huge promise of Chinese companies coming up with even more, and better, Android tablets.
If the fake MacBook Airs and bootlegs of Windows 7 were not enough, here we have an Android tablet that also looks pretty!
Buy It Or Not?
Google's plans to come out with a solid Android tablet are still in the pipeline. Honestly, the wait has been too long and if you are not willing to wait a few more eons before getting your hands on a tablet that runs on Android (any version would do at this point!), you can at least have a knock off device from China that carries a decent punch. It is well-fed in specifications and technicalities.
Chinese rip-offs have also been usually seen to function well over time. If you can ignore the wide claimed reputation of exploding batteries that these Chinese products have managed to gather over the years, go for it! It's a tablet, it runs on Android, and it is cheap! A complete package for sure, whether you go for the iPad rip-off or Super pad.
You want an Android and don't want to spend much on it, well, grab yourself a cheap Android Tablet today. After all, it has everything you are looking for in a branded one.
