Free Google Nexus One - Specifications and Review

Free Google Nexus One - Specifications and Review: google nexus 2

The Google Nexus One is one of the most talked about phones of the year, and is now available for free on many popular networks.

In a bold and smart move, the Nexus One is only obtainable unlocked and SIM-free, so you'll not be tied to any particular network operator.

Google Nexus One Design

The Nexus One is a little narrower and shade taller than the iPhone. We don't think it is quite as good looking, especially when compared to the iPhone 4, but it is still a handsome device and the smoothly rounded body is comfy to handle. The conventional four Android touch-sensitive buttons are located along the lower casing along with an illuminated trackball.

Android 2.1 OS

This is the first smartphone available to offer version 2.1 of Android, introducing many new features, including a sat-nav and route guidance app integrated with Google Maps. Multi-tasking is also catered for, unlike the first three iterations of the Apple iPhone. Android Market allows users to download additional widgets and apps, many of which are free.

Google Nexus One Screen

A stunning 3.7-inch 800 x 480 pixel screen is perhaps the centre piece of the Nexus One. Its AMOLED touchscreen technology makes surfing the internet and viewing videos and photos a pleasurable experience. In fact, it is one of the best mobile device screens we have ever seen. One thing to note for Apple fans is the lack of multi-touch capability on the Nexus. This also goes for the free Google Nexus One version 2.

Google Nexus One Camera

A 5.0 mega-pixel camera (which also records video at 720 x 480 resolution) complete with LED flash compares well with offerings from rival cell phones from HTC, Nokia, Sony and Motorola.

Other Hardware

The 1GHz HTC developed Snapdragon processor coupled with 512MB of RAM make the Nexus one of the slickest operating smartphones we've yet encountered.

The communication technology built into the Nexus One consists of Bluetooth, GPS, Wi-Fi, 3G (with 7.2Mbps HSDPA) and integrated compass for use in conjunction with various apps. A built in microSD card slot supports anything up to and including 32GB.

The Best Android Smartphone

The Google Nexus One is without doubt the best Android based smartphone available. The stunning screen combined with the powerful processor make smartphone is an absolute joy to use, easily beating the Motorola Milestone into second place in the best smartphone competition.
