Idiots Guide to Unlocking & Rooting the Google Nexus 7 Tablet

I have done an Idiots Guide for other devices, and now its time for one on the Google Nexus 7 Tablet. I tried to make this guide as thorough as possible, including driver installation, so hopefully this will be as successful for you as it was for me.     I'm trying to find out if rooting will allow the computer to assign a drive letter to the nexus 7 to make it easier for me to use Calibre for ereading purposes

    Yes..you stil receive OTA updates. You may install OTA rootkeeper , just in case the OTA update causes the root to be lost. It also doubles as a temp unroot solution, for times when you need to use your wallet account etc

    quick question, can the toolkit root and unlock AFTER I updated to the latest version or jb?
    if no, will updating AFTER rooting revert my device back to unroot/locked status?

    quick question, if you unlock & root it, without installing any custom roms...can you still update the device through the system updates option on it?

    First of all im a noob to android devices and i was wondering how to get the apps i had on the tablet back after im done rooting it? PS: i know its probably really simple im most likely just over thinking it

    Undo the root and relock it for warranty purposes and, No, it isn't. This is a Nexus device...it's kinda meant for being hacked/tweaked. Mind you--NOT broken by a user that doesn't bother doing his/her homework but, Yeah, it should be hacked up and expanded upon. Just take your time and learn at least the basics on this and what it's for and how to do it and you'll be fine. Get a proper USB-OTG cable and you'll be all set.

    Awesome! I had to manually install the Samsung Drivers because I was getting hung up using Windows 8, which would not allow installation of unsigned ADB drivers, but after this, everything went exactly as you showed in your video. Thanks, Rev!

    Just wanna say that I've been looking for about 3 days for an easy-to-do root tutorial without any luck. Every other one was plagued with people freaking out that something didnt work right. Thank you so much Reverend...u are truly a man of GOD.. lol
