It will be the first tablet to run Android 3.0 Honeycomb, the version of Android built specifically for tablets. The details on Honeycomb are still light, but we know that the user experience has been improved for features such as widgets, multi-tasking and browsing. And we saw some of those improvement during our demo of the Motorola Xoom. The Xoom browser supports multiple tabs, videos in the browser window and incognito mode, which hides your browsing history. Google Books comes standard, and your picks from its library of 3 million books is synced to your Google account. Google Maps also gets an update with enhanced gesture control and faster rendering, thanks to the Xoom's fast processor. Speaking of the processor, the Xoom's is best in class, an NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core processor running at 1 GHz. It has 1GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage, plus microSD support for up to an additional 32GB. There's a 10.1-inch widescreen HD display (1280x800), which has the same 16:9 aspect ratio as an HDTV so no bars. It can also play 1080p video through its HDMI output to watch on your TV. Rounding out the package. the Xoom has a front-facing 2MP camera for video chats over Wi-Fi or 3G/4G LTE, as well as a rear-facing 5MP camera that captures video in 720p HD. ReplyDeleteBeeing younger means there is going to be less cross plataform like the games you like. "ability to run code on your device is", well that is one of the most interesting thing to to while developing. You can't deny beeing open source helps with general development, as a developer I know that understanding how the system works as well as how the API works and how it is runned by the system is very helpfull if you want to go deep and program better apps.

"Android is also younger" XDDDD so what? iOS sdk is not paid, ability to run code on your device is, If we think that way Android is also paid to fi you wish to publish something on there market, but it's cheaper. And what you would seek in source code that is undocumented and helps you with your app? all you can use is APIs on your app
ReplyDeleteAPI != system source code. iOS sdk is paid. Android is also younger.
ReplyDeleteTo get APIs all you need is header files and iOS SDK provide them and discover undokumented things :p and iPhone community is not much smaller, in fact i find some games i interested in missing on Android ^^' either way all those diffrences are not so dramatic in normal use, thats why Android didn't kill iOS yet and probably never will. It's all matter of preference and i respect yours ;p

ReplyDeleteLove my XOOM (and iPad) but if you don't have the TERMINATOR from STYLUS-R-US (beststylusDOTcom) you're not getting the full potential out of your XOOM. The Terminator makes them all, ROCK!
ReplyDeleteThe bottom line is that Apple Ipad Fangirls are typically middle school kids. If not, they're older Android haters that are all mouth and no buy. But good news! You can buy a crappy little Apple tablet now for $499! It comes with instructions so you can "configure" it. It also instructs the user to click his heels together 3 times and say, "It IS better than everything, it IS better than everything" over and over..

Sold units does not means nothing. Windows sells way more than osX(mac) and that does not mean that is better. GM sells more than ferrari and that does not mean anything.
ReplyDeleteThe xoom is way better than the ipad 1 in many aspects(not all) not the ipad 2. The reason why the xoom is not well selled is cuz nobody knows the xoom. If you ask an average person will not know the xoom.

The xoom is unreal, it's worth it simply for flash, and on top of that it has a dual core processor. Plus, i got mine for free haha. This website is giving them out just to spread awareness.

No, the only reason the iPad is succeeding is because it's made by Apple. If the Xoom (running honeycomb) was also made by Apple the iPad would be left in the dust.

not even gnna start to fight against an apple fanboy, and before you comment on that, note i have an iphone myself, which is awesome. not because of fanboy issues but because of specs.
the tablet just cant compare vs android. YES i tried em both. good for apple that they know how to market their products, doesnt mean its better.
