iPad UK Prices - Is it Fair?

iPad UK Prices - Is it Fair?: tablet pc price

Apple disclosed the details on iPad UK prices by early May this year. Before that, there has been months of speculation about the would-be prices among people who prepared to by the device even before it hits the UK stores.

Once the iPad UK prices were announced, some believed that Apple saved them from misery and others, believed otherwise. iPad pre-orders started 10th May onwards but not many people were interested in buying the gadget in advance.

There are six tablet models available in the market with three different hard drive capacities. There are two more versions of the same capacity, one with Wi-Fi and the other with 3G in addition to Wi-Fi.

The most basic tablet model available in the United Kingdom, 16GB Wi-Fi model was priced at £429. This was the starting point of iPad UK prices and it is uphill all the way from there. For additional £70, that is for £499; one could buy the 32GB version of the device. 64GB version was priced at £599. When it comes to the corresponding 3G models, the prices have been increased by £100. Therefore, the iPad UK prices for 3G models were £529, £599, and £699.

Are these prices affordable by the general public in the United Kingdom? This was a question raised by many enthusiastic critics of pricing of Apple's latest tech gadget to the market. When observing the United Kingdom electronic consumer market, anything over £500 is not considered healthy for the sustainability of the device when it comes to the demand.

Although keen users may buy for whatever the price Apple demands, moderate and professional users will have their own stand against the high price. The matter of fact is that there are other iPad like handheld devices in the market for a fraction of tablet's price.

Users who complained about the high prices got into more trouble with the 3G models. In order to make use of 3G feature of the tablet, users are required to subscribe to a telecommunication services provider. On top of the high 3G model prices, the 3G users had to pay high prices for the telecommunication providers in the UK, as well. The mobile operators such as Vodafone, O2, t-Mobile, and Orange have come up with similar deals for the European market too.

After everything adds up, the iPad UK prices turn out quite high compared to device launch prices found in other countries. Apple usually does not elaborate in issues similar to these. Due to the high price, according to critics and reviewers, tablet sales have not been as much as Apple initially predicted.

In the US, Apple actually ran out of devices due to the high demand. But in the United Kingdom, nothing similar ever happened and the demand didn't go anywhere near to the US record. This was quite the opposite of what Apple and some other technology blogs predicted earlier, about the iPad launch in the UK as Apple anticipated only a slight drop in sales percentages compared to the landslide they experienced.
