Part 2: www.youtube.com Originally posted for Zbrush central here: www.zbrushcentral.com Hi, so I've been meaning to post a review/demo of using Zbrush on a convertible tablet PC, since when I first started looking into it there was not a whole lot of information about how well it would run. I've been using it now for about a year and loving it the whole time. It works better than I had hoped, and I have no idea why tablet PCs were always marketed to the "business" customer and not to the artist. How useful is pressure sensitivity in spreadsheets anyway? Anywho, the video is a little long (2 parts) but I tried to cover most of the basic considerations. Thanks to 720p portrait size, it's probably only really watchable in full-screen mode. More info and in-depth review on the specific tablet I'm using: www.tabletpcreview.com

I currently own an X220T and have noticed a very annoying "electric sound" (like electric charges turning off and on as the computer is processing something - i.e. when you see the can). I am interested in purchasing the new X230T, however I was wondering if you can tell me if you hear a similar noise or is it silent? It is not a small manageable noise, in fact it can get quite loud (and for sure it is not the fan, nor heat sinks).
ReplyDeleteI was thinking, could it maybe be the i7 processor (i7-2620M)?
I'm still not impressed with the keyboard. Tinkering around with the other Mac-Competitor lines and giving them those funny little keys and reduced row is fine... but when I buy a Thinkpad, I want a Thinkpad.
ReplyDeleteI know all of these issues and I know what to expect. One thing I found about actually changing and modifying screens in laptops is that the firmware and LVD cable needs to support the extra bandwidth. If i knew that the bios and LVD would support it, I would buy one and replace the screen myself.
ReplyDeleteOh. Unfortunately the one and only resolution available for this computer is 1366x768. The disadvantage is (obviously) the picture is not as clear, but there is an advantage (especially because it is a tablet): As the resolution gets higher the UI elements get smaller, so trying to use your fingers might be hard. But i do wish that there was a higher resolution display available.... Well, i guess we will just have to wait!
ReplyDeletenono,, I mean to upgrade the one inside the laptop.
ReplyDeleteThanks. I was just wondering because, as I was ordering my X230t online, I chatted online with a Lenovo representative and they were so confident in telling me that the pen does not come standard with the tablet and I would have to pay $50 extra for the digitizer pen.
ReplyDeleteAn external monitor? Yes! You must get a display port to dvi adapter though...
ReplyDeleteThe 9 cell "slice" battery is available for the x220t as well :)
ReplyDeleteYes! :) The pen feels solid in the hand and has a secondary click button on the side as well as an eraser on the top!
ReplyDelete2:50 OMGOMGOMG it comes with a cleaning cloth! Incredible! Take my money! Now!
ReplyDeleteGood thing is the screen is flush.
ReplyDeleteIs the 6cell battery issue fix? Why ain't in stores yet?
Does the digitizer pen come standard with the tablet?
ReplyDeletegotta love this baby! how well is linux/ubuntu supported?
ReplyDeleteSo the newer X230T has a 9-cell battery option, but the previous gen X220T does not? I have the latter model, but can only get a 6-cell.
ReplyDeletewhy release a new model with still no fix on the edges...
ReplyDeleteunfortunately its chiclet..
ReplyDeletevery intersted in all except the keyboard.. i think its ruin the tradition
Got mine from mastercard marketplace for 25% off. Really good deal if anybody else looking forward to buying it
ReplyDeleteyou're funny
ReplyDeleteThanks.
ReplyDeleteThis a great review.
ReplyDeleteAnger + Total Ignorance = Funny to read statement
ReplyDeletewhat are you an old woman school teacher? Go scold someone else. Anyone who uses a CG program is nothing more than a factory worker. Anyone can learn it. It takes no skills, just the ability to memorize some tasks. It develops nothing except an amazing amount of arrogance in those who learn the simple tasks.
ReplyDeletethis guy went to quite a lot of effort to share his own hard earned knowledge with the community, too many CG artists think knowledge is power and never give anything away. all your arguments are spurious as Hell. why on earth would any one start a fight on this thread?
ReplyDeleteThe zbrush program prominently features a zbrush recreation of a still from "Young Frankenstein" It takes no skill nor talent to reproduce what someone else has already done, it only takes work. The process of creating in zbrush is so CUMBERSOME that it prevents creativity and imagination. You become an extension of the machine. Pixar and others always need to go to those who can draw for character development and creation.
ReplyDeleteThey already know that. They know that computers do not create anything. Their animations are always based on creations of real artists that are capable of visualizing and imagining and understanding how to depict a three dimensional object on a flat surface. Programs like this are for the worker drones. In the old days of animation, doing the inbetweens developed skills. These programs don't, and anyone can learn them.
ReplyDeleteIs flippancy a defense mechanism?
ReplyDeleteI hadn't thought of that, I'll tell Pixar.
ReplyDeleteIf it's not, it's at least a word I probably used even more than awesome in this review. I guess that's what I get for no pre-planning or script...
ReplyDeletewhy not just learn to draw instead of faking it with a computer?
ReplyDeleteis snappy the new awesome?
