Donut, Froyo, Gingerbread and also Ice Cream Sandwich are not only deserts anymore, but names associated with Google's Android variants. Launched in alphabetical order, a brief history of the Android types is as fascinating as their names. It is no surprise Android has always been at the core of the technology innovation in the Smartphone paradigm.
The evolution of the Android Smart phone operating systems began in the fall of 2007 when Android 1.0 beta was launched. Later, on Sept. 23, 2008, Google released their first commercial version, Astro Android 1.0, on HTC Dream G1. It had excellent features like Web browser, Android market, Google contact synchronization, and Google apps, along with a host of other features coming from Google like Gtalk, Google Maps, Google Calendar, Google Search, and also YouTube apps.
On February 9, last year, the updated version Bender Android 1.1 was released. It was originally limited to T-Mobile G1. In this version, the API was changed and some features like saving attachments in e-mails and the capability to conceal or show dial pad were included. Unfortunately, the Astro and Bender names pertaining to both of these pre-released Android versions, could not be utilized due to trademark concerns.
Cupcake Android 1.5 model debuted on April 30, '09 with newly improved UI. Cupcake had outstanding features such as text prediction support, copy-paste capability on internet browser, playback, and movie recording in MPEG-4 and 3GP formats. This first model of Android also had the ability to upload images on Picasa and videos on YouTube.
Introduced on September Fifteen, 2009, Donut v1.6 is definitely an updated version that had more advanced text search as well as voice facilities, using updated program support for EVDO/CDMA, VPNs, and the WVGA display resolution. It is the very first version of Google Android to offer flexible navigation command.
