The use of tablets and other portable computers are increasing in demand. However, the prices of these tablets and electronic gadgets can be overwhelming, especially if you are a self-supporting student or young professional on the way up the career ladder.

Good thing is that there are refurbished and second-hand models which can be bought for a fraction of a price. Refurbished tablet PCs are tablets which were repaired and fixed. The repair of the tablets is done by technicians and reputable computer experts.

Most of the refurbished tablet PCs are actually new and leftover stock. Some are devices used during demonstrations or as models in computer shops. Once the settings were configured or important replacements were made, the tablet PCs operate perfectly.

But before purchasing a second-hand equipment, it is important to keep the following in mind.

. Where will you use the tablet? It is important to answer that first question, since you have to consider what would be the primary function of the refurbished device. Tablets have different types and functions and you have to make sure that you will be purchasing something that will meet your needs.

. Buy from reputable sellers. Ask around, friends and colleagues usually have recommendations. If you are buying online, then make sure that the seller has good customer rating and feedback. Don't just rely from the site's feedbacks. Make sure to check independent websites for customer reviews and ratings.

. Compare prices. Shop around and check the different websites. Usually, price indicates how credible the buyer is. If you feel that the price is too good to be true, then have the right to doubt it.

. Check the warranty period and the return policy. When buying devices/ equipments, it is very important to check how long the warranty period will be and what will be the conditions stated in their return policy. Warranty should be longer than the usual 90-day period. It you cannot purchase a refurbished tablet that provides extended warranty, then it would be better to purchase a new one.

Checking manufacturer sites is also one way to get the best deal. Check popular brands since they usually offer refurbished or second-hand items for affordable prices. The websites also offer promotions, clearance sales, and other closure sales which buyers can take advantage off. Some of the best refurbished tablets and computers are offered by HP, Dell and IBM. In fact, Dell offers 3-year extended warranty for their refurbished equipment.
